Press release: Sunnybrook Research Institute to install MILabs VECTor+

October 31, 2013

MILabs is pleased to announce that Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI), the research arm of the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, located in Toronto, Canada will install a MILabs VECTor+ system to expand their current preclinical molecular imaging capabilities. The VECTor+ is able to deliver high resolution, sensitivity and scanning speed for SPECT, PET and true simultaneous SPECT/PET experiments contributing to outstanding imaging and quantification results for brain, cardiac, cancer and musculoskeletal applications.

The MILabs VECTor+ will be installed in Sunnybrook’s new Biomedical Imaging Research Suite, opened in 2011, which is housed within the Centre for Research in Image-Guided Therapeutics (CeRIGT). This is a unique $160-million centre of research and excellence that is bringing medicine from the lab to patients. CeRIGT teams develop and test new ways to diagnose and treat cancer, heart disease, musculoskeletal disorders, immune deficiencies, stroke, dementia and other neurological conditions. The work being done at the centre covers the entire span of biomedical research – from basic research to clinical trials.

Utilization of the VECTor+ will be led by Greg Stanisz, PhD a senior scientist in physical sciences. The system will add to the breadth of equipment and multidisciplinary focus of the biomedical imaging research suite and contribute to the integration of preclinical and clinical modalities at CeRIGT.

MILabs is very excited to have the opportunity to work with such a prestigious institution and team of investigators at the Sunnybrook Research Institute and for the VECTor+ system to play such a significant role in supporting the development and advancement of biomedical research in Toronto.

About Sunnybrook Research Institute
Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) is the research arm of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and has grown to become one of Canada’s largest research institutes. Imaging research concentrates on the development and refinement of technologies to visualize cells, tissues, and organs. Blending physics, mathematics and engineering, SRI expertise spans multiple imaging modalities. These technologies are clinically relevant to the diagnosis of disease and the guiding and monitoring of therapies. The main aim of SRI is to understand and prevent disease, and to develop technologies and treatments that enhance and extend life. These aims derive from a core vision: to invent the future of healthcare.
