For over 20 years, preclinical PET imaging has relied on dual photon coincidence detection. While improvements in resolution and image contrast/noise ratios have since been achieved with time-of-flight (TOF) detection, this only works for clinical PET scanners. There have been no such improvements for small animal scanners. That’s why MILabs has stopped relying on dual photon coincidence detection and developed single-photon ultra-high-definition PET (U-PET) instead. The result: dramatically expanded PET capabilities as illustrated below.
