Netherland’s prime minister Mark Rutte and healthcare minister Bruno Bruins led a delegation of Dutch life sciences innovators for a four-day visit to the healthcare industry in the Boston area. MILabs is grateful to have been invited and given an opportunity to expand its market reach into the No. 1 life sciences cluster in the US. Among the institutes and companies visited with interest in MILabs technology were Harvard University, MIT, Mass General Hospital, the Koch Institute, Sanofi, Genzyme, Amgen, Johnson & Johnson and Roche’s Foundation Medicine Inc.

MILabs’ proprietary HD-PET technology unlocks new simultaneous PET/PET and PET/SPECT applications

The potential applications of simultaneous PET/PET and PET/SPECT imaging of co-injected tracers are field disrupting. In a recent publication, researchers of Oxford University demonstrated that dual-isotope images obtained under the same physical and physiological conditions provides a quantitative and highly personalized value of epitope-specific uptake for antibody-based radiopharmaceuticals.

Truman VA Hospital acquires fully loaded PET/SPECT/CT/OI to study effects of “battlefield conditions” on traumatic brain disorders
|

“One of the key applications of the recently acquired MILabs VECTor PET/SPECT/OI/CT will be to study traumatic brain injury (TBI).” According to the pricipal investigator Prof. T. Hoffman, the use of MILabs’ broadband photon tomography is to gain insights into basic mechanisms underlying what for many remains an ‘invisible’ injury. While the ultra-high resolution CT can be used to assess traumatic brain injuries, the VECTor system comes with unique synergistic optical and nuclear imaging modalities to meet the need for providing complementary cellular information in small brain lesions in mice.

Sensor-free respiratory-gated imaging of four mice simultaneously
|
|
To ensure accurate high-resolution in vivo imaging of multiple mice simultaneously, MILabs offers sensor-free respiratory gating so that simultaneously acquired images are free of motion artifacts. This new capability dramatically increases throughput for PET, SPECT and CT imaging while ensuring clean, high resolution images of the lungs and upper abdominal sites.

Unmatched throughput can be obtained by acquiring, in a single session, images with PET, SPECT and CT from up to four mice simultaneously, all respiratory-gated.

MILabs’ user in the spotlight: Dr. Hilary Barrett, Erasmus MC
|
|
Dr. Barrett, a talented Irish researcher, was attracted by the LEaDing Fellows program established by a cluster of prominent Dutch universities.
Stationed at Erasmus MC, Dr Barrett research focus is on cardiovascular disease detection using a novel integrated molecular imaging approach: “By linking characteristics of vulnerable atherosclerotic vessels with inflammation detected by a state-of-the-art multimodality scanner developed by MILabs, I establish quantitative metrics for identifying arterial plaques with vulnerable phenotype. This could be used for decision making in clinical intervention and stroke prevention.’ More information can be found in this article.
