Soochow University Medical College installs MILabs SPECT-CT

Press release: Soochow University Medical College installs MILabs SPECT-CT preclinical imaging system

UTRECHT, THE NETHERLANDS, February 9th , 2015

SooChow UniversityThe department of Radiation Medicine and Protection, part of Soochow University Medical College, Suzhou, Jiangsu Provence in People´s Republic of China has acquired the U-SPECT/CT from MILabs. This high performance in vivo small animal imaging system which has been renowned for unprecedented SPECT resolutions (down to 0.25 mm, isotropic and uniformly over the field of view) by applying MILabs’ proprietary M5™ SPECT collimation technology.

The School of Radiation Medicine and Protection is the key laboratory within the Jiangsu Provence and is one of the leading research institutes and collaborations with international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

“The U-SPECT/CT will be very helpful to our advanced research on radiation oncology biology, and will also play an important role in our investigations into applications of new biological materials”, according to Prof. Mingyuan Gao, Director of the Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Radiation and Protection.

“The unique robust design of the U-SPECT/CT platform allows the researcher to change between different M5™ collimators within a minute, thereby making it the most flexible platform available for mice, rats and medium sized animals“, adds dr. C. Wu, Principal Imaging Scientist at MILabs.

On a daily basis U-SPECT/CT and VECTor/CT preclinical imaging systems are used in leading universities across the world, facilitating groundbreaking research into new diagnostic solutions and therapies using high-resolution SPECT and PET imaging.

About Soochow University Medical College, School of Radiation Medicine and Protection

The School of Radiation Medicine and Protection at Medical College of Soochow University mainly carries out scientific research in radiology. It has seven sections (Radiochemistry, Radiation Hygiene, Basic Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Physics, Radiation Biology, Radiation Genetics, and Radiation Toxicity), one provincial key laboratory (Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Radiation Medicine and Protection), one municipal key laboratory (Suzhou Key Laboratory of Radiation Oncology and Biology), three research institutes (Radiation Medicine, Nuclear Medicine, Irradiation Technology), an irradiation center and a central laboratory. Research is related to e.g. medical and health care and economic development. The school has set up comprehensive cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), World Health Organization (WHO), and maintains close collaboration with research organizations in the United States, Germany, Japan, France, Canada and several other countries.

About MILabs

MILabs provides high-end molecular imaging solutions for biomedical and pharmaceutical research. Today these systems contribute worldwide to the development of new diagnostic solutions and therapies for diseases such as diabetes, cancer, cardiac and neurodegenerative diseases. U-SPECT4 provides the fastest, most sensitive and highest resolution small-animal SPECT system currently available. Recently MILabs introduced VECTor4 and VECTor4CT providing extremely user friendly, fully integrated and simultaneous ultra-high resolution PET/SPECT with a choice of different low-dose high-resolution CT subsystems.
