At the 2009 Annual Society of Nuclear Medicine meeting in Toronto from June 13 till 16, MILabs introduces its novel U-SPECT/CT system, the state-of-the-art Micro-SPECT system offering the highest resolution available that is fully integrated with the MILabs high throughput, low dose U-CT. In the run up to the launch MILabs’ has already contracted to sell one U-SPECT/CT system and upgrade an existing U-SPECT to a fully integrated U-SPECT/ CTsystem.

The University Medical Centre St. Radboud in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, has ordered a U-SPECT/CT system to expand its small animal imaging facilities. The system will be used to perform research on new radiopharmaceuticals for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. For this research objective extremely low-dose studies will be performed with U-SPECT/CT. Furthermore, Delft University of Technology has contracted to upgrade its U-SPECT-II system to a U-SPECT/CT.

Professor Otto Boerman, of University Medical Centre St. Radboud states: ”The new system provides very detailed molecular images, that will allow us to monitor fast tracer dynamics in sub-compartments of the tiny organs or tumors in a mouse or rat but also shows detailed tracer dynamics in the entire body.”

”I am pleased to see U-SPECT/CT being used by two excellent radiochemistry groups”, states Professor Freek Beekman, CEO/CSO of MILabs. “With the integrated CT it will be possible to look at a wide range of isotopes and combinations of isotopes at the sub-half-mm resolution level and also to localize the tracers with the same accuracy in the anatomical framework provided by the fully integrated X-ray CT. This will open new horizons for Nuclear Medicine”

About MILabs
MILabs is a young technology-based company, specialized in biomedical imaging instruments (SPECT, PET, CT) for pre-clinical research and was founded in 2006 as spin-out from the University Medical Centre Utrecht by Prof. Dr. Freek Beekman.

With MILabs’ proprietary technologies and products that provide high resolution and unique dynamic imaging capabilities, researchers are able to do important discoveries or significantly reduce development cost and time of new therapies and drugs. MILabs’ product portfolio comprises of several imaging modalities with the U-SPECT-II, U-CT and the newly launched U-SPECT/CT, a fully integrated system.

MILabs’ mission is to continue providing world-class imaging systems for discoveries in pre-clinical research and to expand the business globally and across other imaging modalities as PET and MRI. For more information about MILabs, please visit our website www.milabs.com.
